HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
reply back please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here’s the Long Answer about how to use Motion Data:
Wanna save motion data from your dance?
Let’s pretend you have the Sample Dance open and you want to have Rin doing the dance instead of Miku. You want to copy the motion data from Miku and paste it into Rin.
Use the Range-Select windows under the Frame Counter area.
Set the range for this dance as 0 – 800. See that All Frame is selected.
See that you have Miku Selected (not Camera/Light/Accessory)
Click the Range-Sel button. See that All the diamonds are red. Click COPY.
Now delete Miku. Load Rin. Click PASTE.
All of Miku’s diamonds now drop into place for Rin. Click PLAY and watch Rin do Miku’s dance.
—
Want to Save a Motion Data file?
To save that dance motion as a file that you can use later:
After you have the Range selected … and the diamonds are Red … click COPY. That puts all of those diamonds into memory.
Now got to FILE and choose SAVE MOTION DATA. You will be asked to give it a name. Name it and click SAVE.
—
Want to use a Motion Data File?
To use a motion file, FIRST go to the frame where you want to paste that file data. If you are aligned with Frame Zero … the data will start at Zero. If you are aligned with Frame 57 … that data will start at Frame 57.
Go to FILE and LOAD MOTION DATA. Pick the file you want. That’s it!
—
You can download motion data files online … YouTube … Drop them into your USER folder inside the MOTION folder so that MMD can find it easily.
—
Motion files have a .VMD extension. Pose Files have a .VPD extension. Pose Files work the same … except they are only a Single Frame. You make a pose file by highlighting the diamonds in a single frame … go to FILE and click SAVE POSE DATA. To use a pose file, go the frame you want, be sure the right character is selected … and click LOAD POSE FILE.
—
Now you know everything! Have fun … keep asking questions!
Rim wrote: When I try to load stages and new models, they either don’t load, or do but no color, it’s all white, except for the shading and some random bits of colour… my new models don’t work?
I DO HAVE a fix for that …
What happens is that you are downloading models from Japanese sources … and their file names use Japanese characters. Your computer is substituting English gibberish for those Japanese characters.
The fix is to download some free software that lets you open a ZIP file, keeping those original file names intact.
Here’s my article about that problem: https://learnmmd.com/http:/learnmmd.com/opening-japanese-models-in-mikumikudance-7-39-sometimes-they-don%E2%80%99t-work/
Read my notes … click that orange link, there, to mikudance.info‘s HELP page … do everything, just right … and you will be in business. (You will like MikuDance.info! … plenty of models and accessories to download … updated often!)
Lemme know if you need more help with it.
SarahP wrote: How can I change the clothes on my models?
Using MMD, alone, you cannot change the clothes on your model. The models are designed as single units. They seem to have fabrics, belts, and chains that could be exchanged for other elements … but the models are actually only one piece. There is now software, just recently available in English, PMD Editor, that let’s you modify your models or even create a new one! Also called PMDE … PMD Editor is getting written-up in the pages of LearnMMD.com. Check it out!

Hey, I’m kind of new to MikuMiku Dance and I just have a few questions that I could not find on your (totally awesome) site. Btw, thanks for making your site, it helped alot.
Thanks for asking! Yup … that’s a lot of questions … Here are my answers.
#1 Submit a frame? … I guess that’d be Register the pose in that frame … Every time you move a bone you want to click the Register button in the dark blue Bone Manipulation area under the lower left of the Stage Screen. What I do, that also works well, is just hold your left hand over the Enter key on the keyboard. Every time you move a bone, click Enter … that’s another way to Register the bone. If you move a bunch of bones and THEN decide to Register, you can click on one of the diamonds in that frame and then click V-Sel … Vertical Select … to highlight all of the bones in that frame … and then click that Register button in the blue Bone Manipulation area to catch ’em all.
ALSO … as you move bones in a frame and you want to “undo” … just advance the frame counter a click and every not-registered bone snaps back into its old position.
#2 Move a character without bending their legs … You will find that the two Leg IK bones and the Center bone are the main bones that you will use to move your models around the stage. In the Brown bone chart on the far left of the Frames area, Click the +IK to show all of the IK bones. Click on Leg-IK R and Leg-IK L … hold down the Shift key while you do it so that BOTH are selected at the same time. Still holding Shift, click on Center at the top of the list … so now you have the two Leg IK and the Center bone all selected. NOW you can use the Red/Green/Blue rollers in the bottom right of the stage screen to move your character anywhere you want to.
Another way to select the right bones for moving the entire character is to use the BOX-SEL button in that blue Bone Manipulation area. Now you can drag a box around the character to select every bone in the entire model. Be sure to include everything so that no part is outside the box. You know you have done it correctly when you see the Red/Green/Blue rollers light up. Now roll those rollers to scoot your model wherever you want it.
#3 Download another stage or something … Easy! What you are looking for are called MMD Accessories. Search the web for MMD Accessory Download and you will find a bunch of them that people have made available for you to use. You are looking for files that have a “.x” file extension. Look inside the MMD program folder and see the USER folder … inside that is the Accessory folder … put your new items into that folder … note that all of the accessories have that .x file extension.
You can also make your own new accessories … stages … props … using Google SketchUp … Read the articles on my LearnMMD.com site to learn about that.
When you use an accessory, you can attach it to the Ground, to some part of your character, or to a dummy bone, which lets you manipulate the part as if it was another character. Again … Read about dummy bones on LearnMMD.com .
#4 Adding music. There are 2 ways to add music: 1.) “After the fact” by using a movie editing software that lets you blend your video with your separate soundtrack … or 2.) Adding music directly into your MikuMikuDance by going to the FILE menu and clicking Load WAV File. To do that, your music has to be saved in a WAV format … has the file extension “.wav”. You can’t use an mp3 file … it has to be wav. Again … if you don’t have software to convert your music files into a wav format … search the web for some freeware to do it for you. I went through this, myself in October, 2011, and I found a FREE program called AUDACITY 1.3 that I like. ALSO … like with the accessories, people on the web have WAV files that you can download … search LeekSpin Polkka wav or MMD wav music and see what you find. In my DOWNLOAD page on LearnMMD.com I have a link to a page that has the Ieaven Polkka (the LeekSpin Polkka) WAV for free download.
Once you have a wav file, drop that file into your MMD program file … inside the WAVE folder in your USERS folder … so that you and MMD can both find it. Then you have those WAV options in the file menu. Go to LearnMMD.com … to my File Menu write-up and you can read about how to use those options.
#5 Make Ren Walk, not Neru … Easy! You want to use the Range Select windows under the Frame area. Take a look at the walking motion and determine how many frames are used … what’s the last frame with any data in it? Enter that number into the Range-Sel window. Let’s call it 0 – 450 . See that “All Frame” is showing, there, so that when you click Range-Sel all of the frame data will be selected. (Take a look at the other options and see that you can select a range for any one bone or for all of only the facial movements and etc.) Click Range-Sel and see that all of the Diamonds have turned red … they are selected. Now click COPY to put those diamonds into memory. Now you can DELETE Neru and LOAD Ren. Be sure that the frame counter is at Zero because we are going to PASTE the data into the current frame. See Ren snap into the new Frame Zero position. Click PLAY and watch Ren do the walk.
Range Select is a powerful tool that lets you copy all kinds of motions. Following these same steps is how you can save motion data on your own. You use Range-Sel, Click COPY and then go to FILE and click SAVE MOTION DATA … and MMD lets you save that data as a file that you can reload into another character whenever you want. Easy and fun!
There you go! — Reggie

with MikuMikuDance. Thank you for your page. I just downloaded MikuMikuDance 7.39 and I did not have the missing file error that you write about. My MMD opened and seems to run just fine. Is that a problem??
HI Josh! That is good news that your MMD is running fine. I think the Missing File Error will happen to people, like me, who are running older computers. Have fun with it! Let me know when you Post a Video to YouTube!
KikiKiki wrote: I can’t get my model to talk in time to the music.
Practice … practice!
I am working to make a model “speak” in sync with the Ievan Polkka. No luck yet! One trick to creating a good lip-flapping motion might be to use only one “Mouse” move at a time. I played back the Sample dance frame-by-frame while keeping an eye on the Mouse panel. I advance the frame to a Diamond in the Facial row and then I click through the various Mouse selections to see which ones are activated and by how much. Doing so, I find that only one attribute is activated at a time in that Sample dance.
If you can load your music as a WAV file, you will be able to see the music on the oscilloscope. I find that the view is too complicated to see much more than the beat of the song. Trying to time mouse moves to the music by matching the mouth action to the visual waves on the screen doesn’t look to be possible. You can click “Play WAV with Frame” in the FILE Menu and then you can here the sound made in each frame. Play a short section with PLAY and then click through those frames one at a time and here the tune almost note by note. That may help you to sync the mouth to the music.
One trick I am trying to exploit is the idea of narrowing the PLAY frame range to only the part of the song I am trying to “mouth”. On my Polkka, the Voice starts at frame 500. I set the Play Range as 500 – 550. Then I repeatedly PLAY the animation for just that 50 frames and adjust the mouth settings until I am happy with the result. Then … set the Play range as 550 – 600, and work on just that next little section.
ALSO … I find that when I click PLAY … the animation skips some of the fast movements that I built into it. Almost like a blur, the mouth averages the tight shapes that I registered. I output a test to AVI and played it as a video and it looks like all of my movements ARE in the video. SOOO … what you see on your screen in MMD during PLAY is not as sharp as what you will see after your animation is rendered to AVI. That makes it tough! You just have to register the frames and know they are there, even when you can’t really see them during Play on MMD.
Good luck! … It is all just experience gained through practice.
Crystal wrote: What’s the best way to Render TO AVI? There are so many choices.
Hi Crystal! Thank you for writing! I use the Cinepak Codec by Radius option as my AVI file. If you are planning to edit your video in another program, you should save the AVI as RAW AVI. That creates a huge file that gives your editing program the cleanest images and the best chance for success. I will write more about the video aspect of MMD as I get deeper into it. I have saved your email and I will reply to you when I have a better answer.

I keep getting an error for “Raycast that says: Post Effect cannot be specified” when I try to load the main.fx file.
Can you use other MME effects?
How exactly do you proceed with the effect?
Is the folder with main.fx (or one of its parent folders) called in English or in Japanese?
The accessories manipulation panel doesnt show up. How do i return it?? HIHIHIHIHIHIHIIHIOIHDS
I have MMM and I have used the lip sync tool LipSynchloid. However, I have this error on only some music files.
Sorry. The audio data should be “sample rate: 48KHZ, quantization bit: 16bit” (Corrected at a later date)
Like what does this mean?
I know the software works since I have had it work before. But when I use some music it won’t work.
Example I had a music file that worked, I wanted to edit the music so I used Wondershare and edited some parts of the music out and saved the split. And then I had that error come up.
I even tried to download Audacity and modified them to be the file they wanted (the 48KHZ and 16 bit) that didn’t work. Tried a lower quality also didn’t work. Tried better quality and still didn’t work. I don’t understand what it wants from me when I saved a file that worked before until I saved it on platform like wondershare or audacity. What do I do? I want record content and use the lipsync software to help me out since I’m so low on time to do it by hand. (I want to record my voice and use it) I know people have done it before. I watched a tutorial on how you use lipsync and that person used their own voice for lipsync. But I didn’t see any issues with them and they didn’t say a word about these errors. I’m at a loss. Help if you know what I’m supposed to do. (and I have used different type of audio files and that doesn’t work also)
hi ‘I tried to download your program and I walked on the steps but it gives me the same answer ( the code execution cannot proceed because d3dx9_43.dell was not found reinstalling the program may fix this problem) I even tried the download of links from youtube :( ………..Please help me.
I guess my topic concerns ethics and originality. Please forgive me if I’m ranting,I don’t mean to. But honestly, where is the originality in MMD? Unless you’re creating EVERYTHING by hand (models, motions, props, etc.), you’re mainly leeching off of other peoples’ creations. Even the characters the models are based on are usually that of other people’s work. I have driven myself nuts many times downloading stuff for this program before that epiphany hit me. None of it is actually my work, and that sucks.
I do wonder if maybe users shouldn’t actually upload their stuff to share but keep it and use it for themselves. That way they can be proud of what they themselves created without all the drama of “dl plz” and “I can’t find the password! Gimme!” I want to someday be able to create my own models but that’s something I’m going to have to put a lot of hard work into learning, and until then I no longer feel right about using others’ models.
IF I choose to download MMD again,it will be only with the default models and no others, which makes for a small cast (why are GUMI and Gakupo not in there??) but c’est la vie.
Hey… You said it ALL in that rant… I first downloaded MMD with the idea I would make all of my own motions, sets and props… And I have made quite a few of each.
It comes down to different strokes for different folks. I have posted videos to YouTube that are completely my own… A, B, C, D, E… and I have downloaded the motion and music files created by other MMDers and added my own “tweaks” to them to make them my own. … F, G, H… with THOSE, you can still “make them your own” by customizing and changing them even more… use your own stage and do your own lighting, use MME Effects…
MikuMikuDance is very flexible and you can take away from it what you wish to… you can put INTO it what you wish to… … AND because of my LearnMMD ideals to create and share with MMD newbies, I almost always use only the models that are included in the basic download so that those newbies will have what I have as they attempt to emulate what I create…
Those original models ARE limited but completely usable and adequately wonderful…
So… Thanks for your rant… But don’t get me started! … I love this stuff… and you… can get in or get out… but I hope you stay in to enjoy the simple joy of MikuMikuDance.
The MMDCommunity is based on expressing your creativity, not originality. We form a community where we share work, give proper credits to others, and use these creations to bring the universe inside our heads to life. This is not “leeching.
MMD isn’t a program for originality, from the very beginning, it’s been based on Vocaloids. People over the years made their own characters, made characters from medias they enjoy, made their own motions based on things they like, etc. This community would not be the same without these influences. MMD is in no way a program for professionals,
It’s great that you want to create your own original work, but you’re phrasing in a way that suggests that people should never use others’ assets. I would have to argue that using things made by others are what drives this community forward: if all we are using are defaults and self-made models, would the community ever become so big or ever become so enjoyable and accessible for people all around the globe?
So therefore, I believe that sharing creations is crucial for this community to thrive, we are a group of animation hobbyists trying to have fun in expressing our ideas and sharing our creation with others so they would be able to express themselves too.
Don’t be swayed by the percentage of entitled people in the community, most of us are very respectful and willing to follow the modelers’ rules.
Maybe you’re right and I’m just being a bit too uptight about it. I’m like that with a lot of things in my life. :) I do enjoy using it no matter what my specific feelings about it are so maybe I will continue with it.
I hope you stick with it… Our “motto” here is Have fun with MikuMikuDance! … That’s what it’s all about… simple fun. … Enjoy!
hello, on windows 10 whenever I try to render to an AVI, MMD quits. How do I fix this??
Hi! Can you walk me through your exact steps for rendering so I can pinpoint the issue? Please include what codec you used as well!
When I try to use a motion, the legs are locked in one place. How to I ‘unlock’ it?
Go to the model whose legs you want to “unlock”, in the box called “model manipulation”, you should see a drop down menu under disp, shadow, and add-syn
In this menu, select the leg IKs (左足IK and 右足IK), tick “off” underneath it, then register.
Do this for both leg IKs and it should work!
anyone know how i can use my xbox360 kinect for windows 10, 64 bit ive looked and there is only 16 bit tutorials
Unfortunately, what you see is what you get. Using Kinect in MMD was an idea that looked cool in theory, but never got enough development.
i need to convert a pmm file to an avi file but i cant find a converter that works with pmm
Use “file->render to avi” menu command
Towards the bottom of this article, you will see notes about screen sizes and how to render to AVI. Also… click the search magnifying glass in the upper left corner of our pages and search for RENDER TO AVI and you will see all of the tutorials and articles that mention that phrase…. a few may have info to help you.
i big derp thanks
Hello! i don’t know if you still answer the questions but i would like to tell you about an error that i’ve had for a long time to which i haven’t found a solution and i was wondering if you could help me. every time i want to use some effect in the MME Effects, i get the error of “post effect cannot be specified” i’ve searched everywhere and still can’t find the solution, i would be very grateful if you could help me, thank you!
(Sorry for my English)
Describe what effect you tried to apply and how exactly you did it.
Hi! Thank you so much for answer.
Well, I’ll explain.
This happens to me every time I try to put any effect (not with all but with some) as for example with the “Raycast Shader”.
And I add it with the MME Effects, I go to the tab and I click in add effects and then I add it.

Raycast is not a shader or, simply, an effect… it is a complicated environmental control system that you must manage properly.
Hello. I am trying to create a character in PMX Editor but whenever i add clothes, they are a little in front of the model in the Z-Axis, and the issue i am having is where and how i can select the individual .pmx file of the clothing piece and move it?
You should use View->Vertex/Masking feature of the PMXView window. Uncheck all materials that do not belong to added clothes. Make sure that the Parts button is depressed, so that unchecked materials won’t go completely invisible.
Hi Reggie – I recently downloaded MMD x64 bit edition and all runs well – except that every time I add in the MME files (MMEffect.dll, MMHack.dll, d3d9.dll) MMD just doesn’t open. It shows the spinning icon indicating it’s about to open briefly, and then it just stops, no error message or anything. Normal x32 MMD will work with the MME and MMPlus files, but I realized I was having a harder time using that to load in models or files there (which is why I tried switching to x64 bit). I downloaded all the Microsoft C++ packages (2008 and 2010) as well as DirectX 9.0, and I even redownloaded MMD many times but I just don’t understand what’s going on. Have you had this problem before? If so, how can I correct this?
There were actually several users who report that 64-bit MMD doesn’t work on their Windows 10, while 32-bit versions work. It all started a couple months ago, so we suspect that a failed Windows update has something to do with it, but can’t confirm it, as we have no access to MMD/MME source code. There has been no updates on their respective home pages for years, and it’s hard to tell if anybody knowledgeable is on the issue. Unfortunately, among LearnMMD team, “people who are versed in Japanese and could google it from source”, “people who are versed in computers and do understand what’s it about”, and “people who have 64-bit Windows 10 and can see it personally” are poorly intersecting subsets. I’m afraid that “try 32-bit version and see if it works for you” will have to be a standing advice at least for some time.
(those 2008 and 2010 Microsoft C++ packages you’ve downloaded are 64-bit versions too, I hope? Just checking.)
Hi… I’m really new to mmd and pmx stuff. When I try to make a model I run into this constant problem. White models. Well, not exactly, I load in the base I want to use then I load in the hair and it’s white. I’ve watched videos, read blogs, almost anything and I still can’t figure it out. Please help me DX
Usually those white models happen when the texture files are not in the same folder as your model. Put all of the elements into the same folder… see if that “does it!”
Hey!
I’ve been using MMD and PMX for a while and one thing I come across a lot while editing is extra display panels with square brackets.
I know they are all expression panes but I only need 1 and they all have different names. A friend told me they could be merged (since they can’t be deleted) but I can’t seem to figure out how.
Ex:
[Root]
[Exp]
[Look]
[???]
{Last 3 need to be merged or last 2 deleted}
It wouldn’t be that big of a deal for me normally but sometimes there are 2 or 3 of these on each part I use for a model so my display ends up a mess and I can’t do anything.
I’m hoping there’s a trick around this or a way I can fix it or maybe I’m just not hitting the right buttons.
I’ve never ran into this problem before – are you able to remove the expressions from each square bracket thing and pop them into another square bracket thing? Of course, the square bracket thing that is empty would still exist… But at least it wouldn’t have stuff in it!
Do you have a way of uploading a picture of what is bothering you exactly? I don’t know exactly what it looks like that you are describing.
Best of luck!!
– Mae
Hi Jonihn,
So that can happen when doing a lot of importing, and I think it counts as a bug on the part of PMXE, since there can only ever be one morph display panel.
I don’t have a bugged model handy to test my fix, but the first thing I’d do is delete all individual entires from all morph display panels, then save the file, then import that file into a new, empty .pmx and repopulate the morph panel.
If that doesn’t do it for you, please feel free to send a link to the hosted file to Reggie (address above) and I’ll figure out what needs to happen.
Hi was wondering if you could help me with my problem.
So for some reason anytime I use my mmd with the mme it crashes when I try to open it, but when I take it off, it works just fine. I know for a fact I have all the required files, and I have tried deleting and redownloading but no luck.
So if you have any idea on what the problem could be pls let me know.
If you are using 64-bit of MMD/MME, try to download 32-bit versions of both. There was a single report of it working on Windows 10 while 64 was crashing mysteriously.
(“I know for a fact I have all the required files” – that *does* include DirectX 9.0c and C++ Redistributables, I hope?)
thank you it now loading up and is not crashing when I tried to open the software with mme
how to fix crashes while rendering?
i just use a stage,motion,camera motion,and effect
and when i reder it.it crashed can you please reply me fast i need to make videos on my youtube channel!
If you see this please reply
There’s any number of reasons. If you try to render a simple animation… just a basic model on a white background, does your MMD create that video… or crash? If you delete the effects from your existing animation and try to render, does THAT work? What brand of computer are you using? …
hey i have a problem again xd when i use stage motion its crashing
Slow down… tell us the whole set-up: what you are doing, what happens, when does it happen… what do you think it might be?… any error messages?
when i use stage motions its crashing its not gives error
What is a stage motion?
oof nvm
Slow down… tell us the whole set-up: what you are doing, what models, what stage are you using, what happens, when does it happen… what do you think it might be?… any error messages?
