MikuMikuDance is a free 3D animation software developed as a promotional element for fans of the Sony/Sega Vocaloid product. Featuring a high-style Japanese feel, MikuMikuDance has caught-on around the globe with tens of thousands of users and millions of MMD videos uploaded world-wide. Ask questions... get answers!... email LearnMMD's Reggie DThe MMD program was introduced in Japan about 2007, without an English translation until 2010. MMD 9.26 from LearnMMD.com!

Download the latest version of MikuMikuDance MMD 9.26 Download MMDx64 64-bit MikuMikuDance MMD 9.26x64

VPVP Released MMD 9.26 December 17th, 2014

MMD 9.26 runs great for most users of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10 … but we are getting reports of a couple of different kinds of errors, as well.

Download MMD 9.26 from LearnMMD, open it up and see what you have … and then hurry back to LearnMMD.com for MMD tutorials!

Editors Note 10/26/2015:
FIX THE Side-By-Side Error…

The VPVP page recommends that you download and install:

Regular MikuMikuDance(32-Bit)
If cannot move, please install following runtime package.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package
DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime

64-Bit MikuMikuDance
If cannot move, please install following runtime package.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x64)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64)
DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime

It is critically important to have those packages installed in your system. MMD will not run properly without them, and will not accept higher versions of the same as a proper replacement¹. The majority of comments asking for help about MMD acting wrong will be countered with “Have you DirectX and MS Visual C++ runtimes installed?” inquiry, and more likely than not, resolving these will resolve your problem as well.

¹ The above does not mean you have to rollback higher versions of these libraries (that you most probably have) in favor of more obsolete ones. Runtime packages are products specifically designed to be able for all versions to coexist on the same machine.

Editor’s Note, 1/18/16:

Troubleshoot / Fix your MMD

Our Parkeerwacht has written a single article describing the common errors and the latest solutions to those errors. See that post to find the answers you need as you

Download older versions of MikuMikuDance

A while back, when MMD 8.11×64 was released, we got reports that it didn’t run on 64-bit machines … but 8.10×64 DID run … so, if you have too many problems with the latest 64-bit version, you might try running MMD 8.10×64. You can still download MMD 8.10x64 from LearnMMD.com.

LearnMMD still has 64-bit MMD 8.10×64 available for download… an older version, February 2014!
Click to Download MikuMikuDance 8.10 64-bit while we wait for a fix to the bugs in MMD 811x64. Hosted by LearnMMD.com

64-Bit MMD 8.10

Download MMD 8.10 64-bit to run on your modern 64-bit Windows computer. MMD 8.10 includes the new model, LUKA v1.0

MMD 8.11 and each of the newer versions, including MMD 9.26, include Luka v1.1
If you choose to download old MMD 8.10 so as to get Luka 1.0 … be sure to put her files into a separate folder and name the folder Animasa Luka_1-0, or something, because Luka 1.1 in the current versions of MMD uses the exact same file names … and you risk converting her into the old 1.0 version if you simply drop the old files into the model folder.

——- Already been running an older version of MikuMikuDance? ——-

LEARN how to Upgrade older MMD to MMD 9.26 … After you have downloaded and unzipped the zip, Reggie shows you how to convert your MMD 7.39 folder into a MMD 9.26 folder.

We still have the…

Original DirectX MMD 7.39 version:

Click the button to download the MikuMikuDanceE_v739.zip file from LearnMMD.com

MMD 7.39 runs great on XP computers and the newer systems, as well.

You can visit the VPVP page http://www.geocities.jp/higuchuu4/index_e.htm and see what is there. MMD 7.39 used to be the Version 1.3 on that page. MMD 7.39 is removed and only the latest version of MMD is available there.

There is no “install” … just run it from your desktop. Have fun with it … Hurry back to LearnMMD.com for the information you need to get started with Miku Miku Dance.

Upgrade DirectX_9 if you get the Missing DLL Error

Click to get Microsoft page to download DirectX 9cIn July of 2011, I found that I needed to upgrade to, at least, DirectX_9 … and I had a heck of a time finding it on the Microsoft Support pages.

This link at Microsoft is proven to work for all Windows versions … XP thru Windows 10 … I hope it works for you!

Most likely you have the higher version of DirectX installed on your computer by now. The common mistake is to update it to the latest release and expect it to solve your problems. Well, it won’t. MMD requires very specific files that are no longer distributed by default, so if you have the “missing dll problem“, you *need* to install the redistributable pack listed here. Do not worry, it won’t overwrite your newer DirectX install!

Fix the “Cannot find MMDxShow.dll” error

Download mmdxshow.dll from LearnMMD.com and drop the new file into your DATA folder. Fix the cannot find MMDxShow.dll error! Download mmdxshow.dll 64-bit from LearnMMD.com and drop the new file into your DATA folder. Fix the cannot find MMDxShow.dll error!

Download MMDxShow.dll Zip… Reggie’s personal copy!

Try this fix for the Cannot find MMDxShow.dll Error message. RENAME your old MMDxShow.dll file (if you have one) so you still have it in case this fix doesn’t work for you. Then download MMDxShow.dll from LearnMMD.com … drop it into your DATA folder inside the main MMD folder.

Please rename the file if you make changes to it.

See the write-up and learn how I created this animation on this page: Make Miku Walk!

My new WalkTest8 file shows that Walking is getting easier!

My new walk test file is cleaner than my previous motion file. See it at https://learnmmd.com/EasyWalk . I started by sliding the model back a bit so the toes are on a ruled line … registered. Then I moved out 15 frames and advanced the Center and the Left Leg IK to the next line. Registered. I COPIED the Left Leg IK position. I then went out 15 frames and PASTEd that Left Leg IK data. Then I moved the Center and the Right Leg IK out to the next ruled line, registered, and COPIED the Right Leg IK position. Advanced another 15 … and so on. This created a nice sliding/skating motion. Then I went back and added some foot and hip action. Go ahead and download this little file and play it for yourself!

Hi! This information has been very useful, yet I still come up with a problem. I went onto the article and found my problem listed. But, I couldn’t seem to open up the DXSETUP file. Everytime I click open and put in my password, it appears for a moment before dissapearing. I’ve troubleshooted the app, yet can come to no solutions. Hopefully you’ll be able to help me.

    • April 20, 2017

Hmm? DXSETUP does not require any password to run. May it be that you’re doing not exactly what you think you’re doing? More details, please.

Oh, I mean the password for my main account that allows the app to run (I’m not sure how else I could phrase this:/) . My problem was where the dll was not installed on my computer, therefore I couldn’t open mmd.

You’re on a Windows desktop computer, right? Not some cloud-based tablet or something? Just checking.

So you download the file, directx_Jun2010_redist.exe, about 100MB size, and you unpack it, and then you have a folder with DXSETUP.exe and a large bunch of .cab files. You do not open it in a WinRAR or something and then try to operate it from inside the program window without unpacking into a folder, right?

And then when you have that DXSETUP clicked, it just does nothing at all? No agreement window, nothing?

No, it only appears for a second before disapearing, I have no time to click it or anything. And, yes I’ve done everything you listed before and am using a computer.

I’ve been wanting to make my own models for a while since deviant art model creators haven’t made some specific models I want. I’ve been wanting to download PMD or PMX, but they are Mediafire links. I personally don’t trust Mediafire for a number of reasons. Is there another way to download it, similar to how I can download MMD on this site?

    • Alex Alex
      April 17, 2017

      Or a safer way?

      • April 17, 2017

Versions hosted on Mediafire are safe. Mediafire itself isn’t a source of viruses as well; still, if you’re worried about tracking your activity, there are ways to stifle that. For example, if you’re using Firefox, you can open File->New Private Window, Chrome has New Incognito Window as well, etc.

In the end, you can download original Japanese PMXE from its homepage.

How do I take the head off of one model and attach it onto another model’s body WHILE retaining the hair physics? It seems impossible, and recreating the exact hair physics again on the new model is way too difficult. Surely there is an easy way to keep the hair physics as I put the head onto a new body.

I’m still relatively new to MMD and had it on my Windows 10 computer before it broke. I’m currently using a Windows 7 computer and everytime I try to install MMD on it it keeps saying the exact same thing about its side by side configuration being incorrect. I tried everything I could to fix it and tried looking up tutorials but they all involve the missing dll file problem (note that I already tried downloading the dll files with the same result happening). I even tried to download the older versions but they’re all the same! When I had my Windows 10 computer everything worked properly, is there any way I can fix this?

yes i tried with the right version and same again

I’ll guess: you have the 64-bit system, you downloaded the 64-bit archive, unpacked it, and it placed the .dll into an additional MMDxShow subfolder. If so, pull the file out of there and place it *directly* into Data.

So I’m new to mmd right? Well, i downloaded a new model to use and once it was downloaded, i dragged it to the model section of mmd like i was suppose to. Well, it was a zip file, right? Thing is, when i went into mmd and clicked load to pull it up, i press on the character and it said “This is not for Polygon movie maker” or something like that.

    what can i do??

You need to unzip that ZIP folder… https://learnmmd.com/http:/learnmmd.com/bandizip-keeps-japanese-file-names-intact/ … and drop that resulting new folder into your Model folder. NOW you can load the model. … You may wish to translate your model into English so that it will be easier to use.

You need to unzip the folder first how to do that all you have to do is right click it then find the button that says exract all then it will give you an option to chose where you want the file to end up then go to model manipulation in the mmd program and click load a folder should com up and then click the model you want then a pop up will appear thaat is okay just click okay

Hey, Sarinaty Sky, thank you for that info! We DO recommend using Bandizip to extract ZIP and RAR folders. Bandizip handles unicode characters without scrambling Japanese file names. The standard “right-click and extract with WinZip” often loses that unicode data.

I clicked on the zip download with the missing dll file (in a tutorial on this website), i got here i don’t have a dll file. Simply updating DirectX doesn’t work, i need that file, please tell me where is (if it was here and i’m so noob that i didn’t notice it please tell me where is in this page) (also sorry for bad english :P)

    • March 22, 2017

Updating DirectX to the highest version is not what MMD needs. Install exactly the 9.0c Redistributable pack that is listed here (don’t worry, it won’t overwrite your newer DirectX).

If anybody tells you where to get that file alone – pretend you heard nothing.

So, ive been trying to record an MMD and it keeps saying, “Cannot Read MMDxShow lld.” Then it tells me to download the latest version. Ive done that multiple times, but i still get the same result. Ive tried looking at the tutorials but it all ends up the same. I would like some help, please. Thank you.

Have you seen our article about that MMDxShow error? Take a look at it… download the appropriate DLL file, 32-bit or 64-bit, drop it into your MMD DATA folder… let me know what happens… success??

      • March 14, 2017

Well, sending someone from the Downloads page into an article that contains basically nothing but a redirect to this very Downloads page is a bit of travesty, don’t you think? :D

“Travesty” might be a little harsh :P … but I felt the short write-up in that post might help clarify the info the reader needs.
