ALMOST Anything goes!
The goal of this Expo is for YOU to have FUN. No rules except no commercial or advertising content… and remember that this is a Family Show… so, please don’t embarrass Reggie. Remember to Keep the Faith-MMD by tracking all of your sources so that you can list them in the description of your video. Downloaded motion files are OK to use… just be sure to give proper credits. Reggie Dentmore will have the final word on the viability of any entry video. If he determines that there is an issue, he will contact you about it.
Create your video and Post it to YouTube!
Your entry must be a NEW video posted to YouTube no earlier than April 7th, 2020.
Be sure to include Video Dojo Expo 4 in your video’s Title!
Send the video’s link to [email protected]
Judging:
- I want to appreciate the effort that you put into your animation.
- I want to feel the energy and the mood… the “glow” of your art.
- You don’t need to “do” the entire song. Start it where you wish and cut it when you wish.
- Length of the video is not important…
- Have fun with it… let us feel the fun.
Feel free to submit MORE than ONE Entry!
You can make one video entry… or a HANDFUL! … Have fun.
Entries are due on APRIL 28th, 2020…
Your video entry must be posted to YouTube before the stroke of midnight (Pacific Time) on the night of April 28th, 2020.
JUDGING will be by “Viewer’s Choice” in which the viewers will be asked to vote for their favorite video. VOTING will take place between April 29th and May 5th, 2020… with winners announced on May 7th.
SIX WINNERS will be announced…
FIVE winners will be selected by the “Viewer’s Choice” and a SIXTH winner will be selected by the LearnMMD Team.
This is an Exposition…
No one entry will be “the winner”… our goal is to pick the top six entries which will then be entered into our HALL of CHAMPIONS!
THE PRIZE…
Each of the six winners will be awarded a listing on our HALL of CHAMPIONS page with a link to their video and a link to their YouTube Channel… links that will be online, on display, there, for all eternity (or, for at least as long as LearnMMD.com is able to stay online)… and each winner will get a “The making of…” article on LearnMMD.com so they can describe their video and how they “made it happen!”
The “Usual Rules” apply:
Please do not embarrass Reggie with your content… remember that this is a FAMILY show! No advertising or commercial entries. Reggie Dentmore will be “the final word” on an entry’s suitability for this event. He will contact you if he determines an issue exists.
As always… BE CAREFUL with your Music Selection!
Once you decide upon a piece of music, search YouTube to see if OTHER videos are online with your music. SOME music artists do not allow their pieces to be heard on YouTube and if you USE one of those, your video may become BLOCKED on YouTube… so… as a safety: check that the music you wish to use is already showing in YouTube videos. … if you cannot find an example of your song on YouTube… it’s probably not safe for you to use it.
The Legal bits…
Know that each entry stands on its own merit. LearnMMD.com is not responsible for the content of any of the entry videos. To the best of our ability, entries with content deemed inappropriate will be disqualified from entry in this competition. Contestants retain full ownership of their creative submissions. Entrants, by entering this competition, acknowledge that they give permission for LearnMMD to use still image-captures from their submitted entry for promotion of this and any future competitions (LearnMMD will endeavor to credit any such images). The “prizes” offered are write-ups and links published “permanently” on LearnMMD.com as noted in the rules, above… and that “permanence” will be in effect for as long as LearnMMD.com is able to maintain its published pages.
READY… SET… GO!
HAVE FUN…

Are joke songs allowed? This is a dumb question but seriously I have to do this…..
Joke songs? … certainly fine… as long as they are suitable for all audiences.
Hey, does it matter the language of the music?
Language of the music? … Nope! … Have fun with it… your choice.
Hey! So, there’s a not very well known Vocaloid song that I want to use (not gonna say what it is xD), and it’s 4 minutes long. Do you think I should cut it? I’m not quite sure if I should, because it’s kind of hard to cut it without removing good parts of the song. But I also want to do my own motion (there probably isn’t even a motion for the song anyway) and animating that long of an animation in 2 weeks might be rough. What do you think?
The answer is totally up to you… but, you know me: shorter is better. Maybe edit the song in Audacity and just use “the best part” and also use the BlackOut Effect to fade-from-black into your animation and, again, as you fade to black at the end. A four minute Vocaloid song might be tough to listen to and those four minutes will be tough to animate from scratch in less than two weeks unless you “go full-time” on it.
Very late reply, and using a different song now, but thank you! :D You’re good at advice!
Wait…let me clarify, that almost sounded very rude, I meant my reply now was late xD
No problema!
