An Experimental Fix for the
Cannot Read MMDxShow.dll Error
Download MMDxShow.dll …
Download MMDxShow.dll from LearnMMD.com … Reggie’s personal copy of that missing DLL file.
As of this writing, Christmas Day, 2013, I do not know if downloading and installing this DLL file will solve the cannot read MMDxShow.dll file error problem; that’s why I call it “Experimental” … Please let us know if it works for you … leave a comment!
Start by renaming your old MMDxShow.dll file (if you have one). Name it something like orig_MMDxShow.dll so that you have the original file saved, if you need it later.
Then, Download MMDxShow.dll from LearnMMD.com‘s DOWNLOADS page. Unzip the folder and drop the new DLL file into your MMD DATA folder, as shown in the picture, above.
Close MMD (if you have it open) and start MMD. Make a quick test … render to AVI and see if it works … … Yes? … No? … PLEASE leave a comment to let us know how it works for you!
Editors Note 04/18/2017: The MMDxShow error sometimes can be triggered by lack of necessary MS Visual C++ Redistributable packs. If you downloaded the proper .dll file from our page, placed it where it belongs, and still are getting the error, make sure that you have them installed as instructed. |

Oke, i try everything and it still cant tender, but when i think this and that, i found the solution, atleast it works for me.. so when you extract the MMD file, you get some folders right? And there’s should be folder called “data” so you just need render the video inside the folder that have that “data” folder, example inside “download” folder you have “data” folder that you get after extracting the MMD file, you just need to render the AVI inside the “download” folder.. it works for me.. or if you want to make new folder, make sure inside that new folder, you have the “data” folder that you get after extract the MMD file .
Wow… that is a new solution. Glad it works for you! Thank you for sharing this info!

I tried everything… downloaded all the runtimes/redistributables and replaced the file, but still nothing. I suppose worst case scenario I could just screen record but I really wish I could get this function to work. :/
That MMDxShow.dll is an often experienced issue. Maybe don’t use it and instead use the UTvideo codec… ?
i already tried a lot fo attempts trying to do it and its still not working
This article has a TON of comments… please scroll-down through the comments. I hope you find an answer… nothing more can be said as, in those comments, that’s all we know.

Hello.
I have a big problem. Everytime I want to render to Avi, It says there is not Mmdxshow.dll and every time I change the video compressor, it crashes ! If someone has a solution please..
Have you installed DirectX 9.0c as the downloads page instructed?
I tried everything. Up to date, direct x and the c++, literally everything. Even un-installing and re-installing. Nothing has worked. I still have the same error.
Hello… which error is that?… what does it say? Is MMD running OK except for that issue?
mmd show thingy did not work
Please see the many comments that are under that article… I believe that the help you need is in the comments for that article.

Hi, I’m having some difficulty with MMD just recently.
Every time I go to save an image it doesn’t work and says the file is either renamed or moved. I have no idea how to fix it or why it’s doing it too. It literally just started and I have no idea why it started.
Hey Reggie, I’ve tried to render a MMD video to an AVI file but after I set the frames and stuff and error saying “MMDxshow.dll cannot be found In data. Please install the latest MMD.” Can you please help me with this?
You also sent me an email… I replied there… Please take a look for that email.

I’m having the same issue as well, could you copy and paste what solution you gave him here?
OK… Here’s what I wrote at the time… I got no reply, no response from the reader.

Hello! … That’s a common issue… and I have been battling it since 2013… !
You can download MY copies of the 32-bit and 64-bit files… and then place them in the … Data? folder…
… also see the comments at the end of this article… there are, like, 20+ comments…
I hope that helps!
You also might get away from the issue, all together, by using a different Codec…
Good luck…best wishes… glad to help… Please let me know what worked best for you
I’m still having problems, I have DirectX 9.0 installed and when I go to render AMV it still gives me the error of “cannot read MMDxShow.dll”
I have no answer except to try another Codec… do not USE MMDxShow… Try the UTvideo codec. … and you will want HandBrake to convert your UTvideo output to a smaller file size. In a few minutes I will post a new tutorial about using HandBrake… see the Homepage of LearnMMD.com
this was facing me untill i downloaded the 32bit version , try it , if it worked notify me on my Gmail
[email protected] , will be so happy if it works for you <3

Make sure you have installed DirectX 9.0c.
Okay ill install it :)
Did it work?
me too i download it but still it not work
I tried everything It still doesn’t work :(
Have you installed DirectX 9.0c?
It worked for me! Thank you so much!
This is getting annoying. I’ve done evrything… I have all the programs (up to date at that) but I’m still getting this error that this page is for. I recently had to have my computer worked on and before hand, it rendered without issue… so I have no idea what to do now.
Make sure you have DirectX 9.0c (older than the one you most probably have) installed on your PC. Don’t worry, it won’t downgrade it to the earlier state, you just need dll’s that the newer version does no longer provide.
i cant download direct 9.0c cause im on windows 10
Sure you can. The Microsoft downloads site will try to wiggle you out of your resolve if you try to search for it there, but if you use a direct link (our downloads site provides one) you’ll get it all right.
I have direct 9 but it still is still saying this and my PMX editor is having trouble too saying “PMX window update failed” these are the only 2 programs doing this
I tried every solution I see over the net I still have the same problem please help me T—T I’ve exported stuffs from MMD back then before I accidentally deleted everything MMD related stuffs (by accident) and now I’m back this MMDShow thingy keeps popping up :<<<<
Make sure you have DirectX 9.0c installed.
i have windows 10 computer and i have this problem i tried following the steps i downloaded the directX thing and the other thing which is the Visual C + + stuff it keeps popping up the same error on the computer
So…what error IS that?
