When I first installed MikuMikuDance 7.39 on my computer, before anything else, I right clicked the MikuMikuDance.exe icon and chose “create shortcut” … which I “drag and dropped” onto the desktop as a convenient way to start the program in the future. (I like seeing the little Miku Face icon on my desktop!)
When I first double clicked the program, it did not run. An Error message said the program could not find a DxOpenNI.dll … the infamous “missing dll error!
You need to Update your DirectX files …
A quick Google Search gives you BAD information. Different sites want you to download the missing DLL file. You cannot do that. You want to download the DirectX update from Microsoft so that you get the whole set of the newest files.
I went to the Microsoft Download pages and searched for the DirectX 9 upgrade.
DirectX End-User Runtime
We now have the links to the Microsoft downloads for you. Select the proper version for your system from the boxed-area on our Downloads page. Put that file on your desktop and open it to start the DirectX 9 installation. You may delete it after you have run it.
When that installation was complete … when I double clicked MikuMikuDance.exe … it started right up!

I did everything, downloaded all of the files that it said to, including the direct file and mmd show dll file, and I still get the d3dx9 dll file not found? It works on my other computer. I have a Lenovo laptop that runs Windows 10, and like I said, I have all the files that I need downloaded, so why won’t it work?
That DirectX runtime… you download it and then run it… yes? When you do, it installs the proper DLLs into the proper folder.
You can check and SEE if the DLLs are in place. My Computer>C:>Windows>system32… and that DLL will be in that list of files, there… d3dx9_32.dll
…
i got the same message as well. I downloaded the Direct X and let it install, afterwards i went to see if mmd would open and it didn’t….I even tried reinstalling it and nothing worked..
